The Metropolitan
The truth is, I didn't know of many cocktails with brandy as a base and since I had leftover from a batch of homemade eggnog, I decided to do a little research and discovered: The Metropolitan.
The Metropolitan, IMHO, is simply a classic Manhattan and is actually sometimes called a "Brandy Manhattan." The bourbon is subbed out and brandy is the more-than-adequate replacement. It has a little sugar, bitters, sweet vermouth, and of course is garnished with a cherry. Served classically in a frozen martini glass, it has a nice and pleasant "classic" cocktail feel.
Enjoy!
The Metropolitan
2 oz Brandy
3 dashes citrus bitters
1 oz sweet vermouth
1/2 oz simple syrup
cherry for garnish
Place all ingredients in cocktail shaker or glass, fill with ice, and stir about 15 times. Strain into chilled martini glass.
